Wed 6/7 Ride with an individual TT - it's on!
My schedule is keeping me from leading the Wed A ride again this week but I have a proposal for next Wed. For anyone who signed on to the Time Trial group at the spring meeting, or anyone that is looking to test themselves against the clock I am proposing the following:
-6PM departure from Benidorm
-B paced ride out the Riverton.
-At the bottom of Sandy Brook we will hit the lap buttons on our various devices and head up Sandy Brook in 15s intervals.
-The object is to time trial up Sandy Brook with the finish being the utility box approximately 1/2 way up the final hill to 183. Cool down as you like on 183 or down Sandy Brook but we will regroup at the finish when everyone is done and B-pace it back to Canton.
Each person will keep their own time and you can choose to share your accomplishment or keep it to yourself. If there is interest I would like to do a similar effort on two other Wednesdays on different routes (one flatter and one hillier). After a few weeks we will return to theses routes for another go so people can assess their fitness as the season progresses.
I will be on my road bike for this one but each person should bring their favorite ride.
Any interest?
Pat
Interested Pat. I might be able to convince the boys to come out for this.
I'm tapering next week for a Tri but you caught my ear as I might make this my last push before the weekend event.
Sandy Brook bottom to top is just over 4 miles. Just about right for a mixed hill/flat TT. The switching station is closer to the top than I was originally thinking but still a good landmark for the finish. We will all just need to be careful to pause and go right at the top to keep the intersection clear while people finish. Here's what you will be looking for:
I'm down!
Great idea Pat!
I created a Strava segment called "EBCC Sandy Brook TT" for riders of the modern era. It starts at that first bridge at the bottom. I did that because there is a small pull-off on the right side of the road before the bridge where peeps can wait if needed. It ends at the power transformers in your pic near the top. I can adjust or delete if it's a bad idea for some reason. You can always make your rides private for those serious peeps that don't want their times seen.
I haven't committed to actually riding this yet but it sounds fun, sort of, in a tortuous way.
Turn the map to satellite and you can zoom in to see the exact start and finish.
Jim, Great idea, thanks for setting that up! BTW - if you were implying in any way that I am not a rider of the modern era that would be entirely accurate ;)
What the heck is a Strava? Sounds like fancy coffee.

Thunderstorm warnings for Wed evening. Stay tuned and we will decide early afternoon tomorrow if this is a go.
Well now. I think we'll keep an eye on this and make the call around 3PM. In the event that we do cancel I would be willing to attempt this again tomorrow night as Chris suggested.
.. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLE THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING... THERE IS A MARGINAL TO SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS THE FORECAST AREA THIS AFTERNOON INTO THE EVENING. THE TIME OF GREATEST RISK FOR SEVERE WEATHER IS BETWEEN 1 PM AND 8 PM. THE MAIN THREATS FOR SEVERE WEATHER INCLUDE LARGE HAIL GREATER THAN AN INCH IN DIAMETER, AND DAMAGING WIND GUSTS TO 60 MPH OR GREATER.
Sounds like some record times could be set with those winds...the hail might be a setback. Bummed to think I'll be missing tonight, and Thursday if the weather reschedules this. Nice job Pat in organizing this! I WILL be there in the future ones. Also...pondering 2 and 4 person team time trial....this can be real fun!

It's a trick! Don't let her do it. I can hear the phone call now...
"Hi Bunki! It's Jan. What are you doing a week from Thursday?"
We have been upgraded to severe on the thunderstorm warning. I have already scratched riding up Sandy Brook in a hail storm off my bucket list so let's cancel this ride for tonight and plan on it for next Wednesday.

I watched that front rip through the West Hill area around 7:30 last night. It slammed through Colebrook right around the time we would have been headed back.
Pretty happy we dodged that bullet.
The stupid ones (me) was so excited to go do the time trial and couldn't be bothered to check any postings or weather reports until half way up west river road. Disaster was averted though. I cooked it the rest of the way to Riverton and back down east river over Steele and back home just in time to avoid the deluge..........won't be able to make it tonight but maybe next week - I like the idea.
We may actually see the sun tomorrow! 6PM roll out from the shop. B pace to the bottom of Sandy Brook. We'll stop and send riders off with 15s gaps. Regroup at the top for the ride back down. We may be close to an 8:30 finish so bring lights and blinkies just in case.
We missed a few regular Wed night folks but 4 intrepid TTers took on Sandy Brook road for a race of truth last night. It was fun. Next we need to find a flat TT for the week after Hillfest. Any suggestions?
